Description

Fun, lightweight, and easy to play, this Roosebeck Deluxe Wildwood Stick Dulcimer has the rich sound of a mountain dulcimer, plays like a guitar, and has just a little bit of banjo twang. This deluxe model has Sheesham sides and back, "F-Holes" sound holes, and a headstock with a carved wooden scroll, and four geared 4:1 banjo style tuners. Extra String Set Included. Free Shipping.

The body style of the Wildwood allows it to be played like a guitar instead of the traditional "flat in the lap" position of the mountain dulcimer. The teardrop spruce soundboard with two rosettes stands out in contrast to the long, thin rosewood fingerboard. This fusion Stick Dulcimer has three string courses: a wound string at the top, an unwound center string, and two unwound strings tuned in unison, at the bottom. Many tunings will work, but we recommend the traditional DAD to makes it easy to pick up and play. The frets are arranged in a diatonic scale, just like an Appalachian mountain dulcimer, but added is the infamous "6 ½" fret just below the octave position allowing play in Ionian mode. The possibilities are many, playing the Wildwood Dulcimer can be as easy or as complicated as your care to make it. Explore!

Special Note: The strings put on the instruments in our workshops, while playable, are put through some rigorous testing. They should probably be replaced for improved playability, sound quality, and better tuning shortly after you receive the instrument.

Not as much projection as similar instruments but still nice.  No dead strings or frets.  Fun instrument.

Roosebeck wildwood stick dulcimer, rosewood f-hole June 21, 2016
Reviewer: William Holloway from Elizabethtown, KY United States
Very much enjoying my dulcimer, plays well, excellent fret spacing and it's tone is both heard, and subtle. Unfortunately there are no strap buttons but that is easily fixed. The only playability issue I've found is the nut is set so low I'm already having issues with 1st fret buzz on the low d string. Having the fret wire brought down or thickening the bridge will fix. Beautiful instrument, customer service has been excellent and shipping was fast. Definitely wish there was an optional Hardcase made for it

DELUXE Wildwood Stick Dulicmer February 2, 2016
Reviewer: Edward Phillips from Kingsport, TN United States
Ordered instrument on a Friday and received on Tuesday, excellent shipping time.
Dulcimer has great sound.
The quality in detail work should be better with price exceeding $225.00. (Screws not driven in at string guard, chips on edge of back, detail woodwork at scroll a little rough). Poor quality wood on fret board.

Very nice Stick Dulcimer! June 18, 2014
Reviewer: Steve Farling from Central Indiana
Happy with my purchase!!!!
Good price, fast shipping, and tracking info, so I could know when it would arrive!
This is a solidly constructed instrument with nice tuning machines that keep itin tune.
Fret placement is right-on, and it has a much fuller sound than most Stick Dulcimers, with great sustain!
I did have to bend the tailpiece for better comfort while playing, and will probably replace it eventually.
All in all, I like this instrument!!!!!
