Description

This Roosebeck 8 course travel lute has a body made of eleven solid sheesham staves, a sheesham neck and sheesham fingerboard. The peg box is solid sheesham attached at an angle of 135 degrees to reduce the depth of the instrument. The tuning pegs and end pin are sheesham. The soundboard is made out of European spruce. There are eight nylon frets and four sheesham frets. The, 8-course, recommended tuning is G4, D4/D4, A3/A3, F3/F3, C4/C3, G3/G2, F3/F2, D3/D2. Padded gig bag, extra string set included. Free Shipping.

Throughout history lutes have typically had gut strings. Lute strings today, however, are nylon made with high precision instruments. The rectified nylon strings in the Roosebeck set are known for their warmer tone and lightly textured feel. The silverplated copper wound nylon bass strings also produce a very warm, classical tone. We recommend the traditional Renaissance tuning for this set. 4 of 5 Plays well April 24, 2024

The lute works well. A couple of the knobs go loose from time to time, but it is a good enough instrument overall.

5 of 5 A beautiful instrument January 5, 2016
Reviewer: MC from Merrill, WI United States
The 8-course travel lute is light weight and has beautiful wood work and design. I was frustrated at first because the tuning pegs would slowly slip out of place as I was tuning the strings. I learned that this is typical of brand new instruments. The booklet included with the lute suggested that the buyer invest in good quality peg dope or wax less chalk. I bought some from a local music shop. It cost about $9 but will last a lifetime. After two applications the pegs no longer slipped out of place. The nylon bands that separate the frets seem to be cutting a little bit into the neck of the lute. I thought that solid wooden strips should have been used instead, like on guitars. I plan on removing the nylon and gluing wood ones on myself. This is my only concern. The shipping was prompt and the lute was packed well to ensure safe delivery. I am happy with my purchase.

4 of 5 One problem but customer service was great November 16, 2015

I ordered an 8-Course lute and when it arrived the 1st string broke when trying to tune it. There were replacement strings with the lute but the replacement string broke too. I contacted support and they sent me 3 replacement strings and gave some advice on how to fix the problem. I eventually found out that a sharp wood edge stuck out too far above the nut and was cutting into the string. I just filed that down a bit and haven't had any problems since.
