Description

Fun, lightweight, and easy to play, this Wildwood Stick Dulcimer has the rich sound of a mountain dulcimer, plays like a guitar, and has just a little bit of banjo twang. This model has Aheesham sides and back, laser cut sound holes, a standard headstock, and friction tuners. Extra String Set Included. Free Shipping.

The body style of the Wildwood allows it to be played like a guitar instead of the traditional "flat in the lap" position of the mountain dulcimer. The teardrop spruce soundboard with two rosettes stands out in contrast to the long, thin rosewood fingerboard. This fusion Stick Dulcimer has three string courses: a wound string at the top, an unwound center string, and two unwound strings tuned in unison, at the bottom. Many tunings will work, but we recommend the traditional DAD to makes it easy to pick up and play. The frets are arranged in a diatonic scale, just like an Appalachian mountain dulcimer, but added is the infamous "6 ½" fret just below the octave position allowing play in Ionian mode. The possibilities are many, playing the Wildwood Dulcimer can be as easy or as complicated as your care to make it. Explore!

Special Note: The strings put on the instruments in our workshops, while playable, are put through some rigorous testing. They should probably be replaced for improved playability, sound quality, and better tuning shortly after you receive the instrument.

Wildwood Stick Dulcimer February 27, 2016
Reviewer: Ed Moser from Syracuse, NY
I just received mine Thursday, a day earlier than predicted. I have had it for two days now and love it. I have 2 other lap Dulcimers and I find this easier to play. The workmanship is amazing. As far as the strings go, I would order them with the Wildwood and change them when you get it. It is not a big project. Bottom line a fun instrument to play and well worth the money

I would have bought this but the warning to put new strings on when one first gets it stopped me.  The shop should put new ones on before it is sent.
A lot of people checking into this are newbies and don't want to do that.
Other than that this instrument looks a Lot better than many stick dulcimers
